Don’t Need To Be An Audiophile To Play An Audio File
(It is 2005, and I am working at an IT support desk for a college. A new professor calls to request installation of software on her classroom PCs, for teaching Spanish. I ask her to bring us the discs, which she does. Upon inspection, they are AUDIO CDs, not software.)
Me: “Hello, professor. These are audio CDs, so they don’t need to be installed.”
Professor: “What does that mean?”
Me: “Well, it means they just have audio tracks, so you can play them on any CD player or the computers without having to install anything.”
Professor: “What’s an audio CD?”
(I laugh, assuming she’s joking.)
Professor: “Don’t make fun of me! I don’t know about technology. I lived in the jungle for 10 years!”
