Don’t Make A Spectacles Of It

(I am a substitute teacher working in a Grade 2/3 class. I am playing a game with the kids where I tell them things about myself and they have to guess whether I’m telling the truth or lying.)

Me: “Okay, the next one is: When I’m not a teacher sometimes I work at a bookstore.”

Little Girl: “OH! THAT’S TRUE! I KNOW IT’S TRUE! IT’S TRUE!”

Me: *taken aback* “Um, okay. Well, you’re right; the answer is true. How did you know I work at a bookstore?”

Little Girl: *matter-of-factly* “Because you wear glasses.”
