Don’t Be A Slave To History, Part 4

(My boyfriend and I are sitting at home talking about Maya Angelou’s recent passing.)

Boyfriend: “So, Maya Angelou was, like, 90 when she died right?”

Me: “I’m not sure.”

Boyfriend: “So, was she a slave?”

Me: “…”

Boyfriend: “NO! Wait! That was the 1800s wasn’t it?”

(I just sat there in bewilderment for several minutes before I could even answer him.)
