Don’t Alpha-Bet On The New Guy
I work in the Electronics department. We have two sections that have movies, one in the department that had all of the Disney and family movies, and one just outside the department that had all the other genres. Our manager decided we needed to switch the two sections. So, after loading all of the movies into carts, one coworker starts in one section, I start in the other with the new hire.
Me: “So we don’t go by genre, you know, like all the horror movies on this shelf and action on that one. We just go by alphabetical.”
New Guy: “Alright, sounds good.”
He then picks up ‘Spiderman’ (not ‘The Amazing Spiderman’) and puts it at the beginning.
Me: “Oh, no [New Hire]. Alphabetical. You know, A, B, C…”
New Hire: “Ohhhhh, right.”
He then puts ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ there instead. I quickly replace the first few movies.
Me: “[New Hire], we’re doing it in ALPHABETICAL order. So all of the A’s first, then the B’s…if you get stuck, just start singing the ABC song.”
He continues to put up every movie except for the A’s. I sent him away; he went to help our other coworker… and did the same. He was not high or dyslexic, either.
