Do You Folks Sell Popcorn?

, , , , | Working | November 27, 2021

I’m browsing a clothing shop. It’s not busy and I have plenty of time to kill.

Me: “Excuse me, could you help?”

Worker: “Ugh, yeah?”

Me: “You know what? I don’t need your type of help.”

Worker: “Fine, whatever.”

After even more looking, I can’t find what I’m looking for, so I take what clothes I did find to a till.

Cashier #1: “Did you find everything you were looking for?”

Me: “Pretty much, yeah.”

Cashier #1: “What couldn’t you find?”

Me: “Oh, well, actually, I needed some cufflinks. Couldn’t see any around.”

Cashier #1: “Oh. I can get someone to show you if you like? [Worker] should be here somewhere.”

Me: “If it’s the girl with a ponytail, I wouldn’t bother. She was unbelievably rude.”

Cashier #1: “Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. What was it she said?”

Me: “She just didn’t care, I guess. Rude, dismissive attitude.”

Cashier #1: “Hmm. Well, did you hear that, [Cashier #2]? [Worker] was rude to a customer.”

Cashier #2: *Sarcastically* “No, I don’t believe that.”

Cashier #1: “[Cashier #2] here will help ring you up, if you’ll excuse me.”

She disappears and I take my things to the second till.

Me: “What was that about?”

Cashier #2: “Well…” *Looks around* “There was a big argument the other week. A customer complained, was pretty angry. Said [Worker] was really rude. [Worker] started crying, the manager sided with [Worker], and the customer got kicked out.”

Me: “Oh, wow.”

Cashier #2: “Then, the customer complained to corporate, and someone came down. But the manager made a big thing of sticking by his staff and there being a lack of proof…” *Looks around again* “…even though most of us think she is a lazy so and so and don’t believe her for a second.”

Me: “Wow, lots of drama going on.”

Cashier #2: “I know! Exciting times. That will be $23.38 when you’re ready, sugar.”

I end up returning one of the tops a day later, no [Worker] in sight.
