(I was sixteen when my brother was born. He’s now twelve, and that innocent little baby is learning to appreciate dirty jokes. It is Thanksgiving, as we’re playing Apples to Apples with our parents, our grandmother, and our sister’s future mother- and father-in-law. In the game, each card has a caption that either defines the word on it or makes a joke about it.)

Mom: *reading a card* “Balls.”

Brother: *clearly hoping to hear a dirty joke* “What’s that one say?”

Mom: *not exactly what was on the card, but something like* “Golf, football, soccer, basketball, tennis. What’s your game?”

Brother: *in all innocence?* “Aw, nuts.”
