Different Modes Of Teaching

(My mother invites over a friend for dinner who is also a college professor. She introduces him to my sister and me, and we make polite small talk. He begins to tell us about his class, and suddenly goes into a huge lecture about WW2 planes. My sis and I merely nod politely, occasionally throwing glances at each other, wondering when he’s going to stop.)

Professor: *after ten minutes of talking* “Oh, I’m sorry! Sometimes I go into ‘teacher mode’ and prattle on and on.”

Me: “That’s okay. I went into ‘student mode’ and totally tuned you out.”
