(I’m on the phone with mom. I can hear her rummaging around for something.)

Me: “Did you get the text from [stepfather] about him being in Tblisi?”

(She is still rummaging.)

Mom: “I don’t know, because I can’t find my phone!”

Me: “You’re talking to me on it!”

(She laughs.)

Mom: “Right, that’s where it is then.”

Me: “How much have you been drinking?”

Mom: “Nothing, I’m totally sober!”

Me: “You might not want to admit that so easily!”
