Develop A Thick Skin Around The Kids

(I’m volunteering at a vacation Bible school and a little group of four or five little girls have semi-adopted me as a den mother of sorts. Apparently the particular shade of my skin was something they found amusing. We’re walking the kids outside to eat lunch, and I’ve got one little girl on my back and two holding my hands. Suddenly the one on my back starts poking my arm.)

Little Girl #1: *fascinated* “You are sooooo white!”

Me: “Um… yes, I guess I am.”

Little Girl #1: “Why are you so white?!”

Me: “Because that’s how God made me?”

(She starts poking all my freckles.)

Little Girl #1: “Why do you have dots on your skin? Did you do that with a marker?”

Little Girl #2: *envious* “My mom doesn’t let me draw on my skin!”
