Dedication To Medication
I’m in line at a pharmacy. The customer ahead of me approaches the pharmacist with a prescription.
Customer: “I need this filled right away. I’m on a tight schedule, so don’t take forever.”
Pharmacist: “I’ll do my best. It usually takes about fifteen minutes to prepare and verify.”
Customer: “Fifteen minutes?! That’s ridiculous! Can’t you just grab it off the shelf? I’ve been waiting in line for ten minutes already!”
Pharmacist: “I wish it were that simple. This medication requires careful checking to make sure the dosage and instructions are correct.”
Customer: “I don’t have time for that. I’ve been prescribed this medicine for years. It’s not like you don’t know what you’re doing.”
Pharmacist: “Each prescription is unique, and sometimes the doctor changes details. I’m responsible for your safety, so I have to be thorough.”
Customer: sighs loudly “Fine, but hurry up. I have a meeting I can’t miss.”
After finishing the work, the pharmacist hands over the medication.
Pharmacist: “Here you go. Take it as directed and have a good day.”
Customer: “Finally. You know, you should really work on speeding this up.”
Pharmacist: “Your meeting will survive fifteen minutes better than you would without this checked.”
