Deck-Head Move
It’s the last day of an enormous convention. I’m wandering the vendors who are left, most of whom are packing up, when I spy a vendor who isn’t packing up just yet, because they’re very, very busy.
They have at least three people taking down t-shirts from their wall and handing them to people who have paid; there are another six running around getting people stuff from behind their tables; there are another twenty people patronizing the booth. I personally spy a heavily discounted card game and am waiting for someone to be free, when an a**hole shows up.
The a**hole, who may or may not be next line, says:
A**hole: “Hey, I know you don’t want to take these home with you, can I get another twenty percent off?”
Everyone stops what they’re doing and stares. This guy has two decks of cards in his hands. The tables are groaning with the weight of loads of other merch, games, and clothing; his two decks are already fifty percent off.
One of the vendor guys, probably the guy running the booth itself, takes one look at the two decks, one look at the rest of the stuff, and chuckles in disbelief.
Vendor Guy: “That’s all you’re buying? Buddy, I made three grand off a guy just now who bought CASES of that game. Either buy it for the price listed or get the f*** outta here.”
A**hole: “Well…YOU JUST LOST A SALE!”
The a**hole throws the decks down and stomps off, while everyone else laughs at him.
I happen to be next in line, so I buy my game quietly, at the price listed. Even if it’s the last day of the convention, when the vendors don’t want to take everything home with them, two decks won’t make a difference, buddy!
