Dead-Pet Names

(My boyfriend and I have only been dating for a few months, and being as how I have trust issues and he suffers from social anxiety, we move much slower than other couples.)

Boyfriend: *watching Resident Evil* “So, why do you like zombie movies again?”

Me: “They’re entertaining, babe.”

Boyfriend: *turns to stare at me seeing as how this is the first time we had used pet names* “You called me babe.”

Me: “Yeah.. so?”

Boyfriend: *freaking out as he pauses the movie* “Now I have to call you something cute back or I’m a bad boyfriend.”

Me: “You don’t have to.”

Boyfriend: “It’s like, the rules… honeybun.”

(I crack up laughing.)

Boyfriend: “No? How about, cheesecake?”

(I laugh even more.)

Boyfriend: “Chinchilla?”

(Needless to say, we don’t really use pet names anymore.)
