Crabsolutely Not
I’m introducing myself to my newest table of diners, and get to the inevitable question:
Me: “Does anyone here have any allergies or intolerances?”
Customer: “I’m allergic to seafood.”
I acknowledge this and start taking their orders.
Customer: “I’ll get the crab tots.”
Me: “Uh, sir, you said you’re allergic to seafood, yes?”
Customer: “That’s right.”
Me: “Including crab?”
Customer: “That’s right.”
Me: “Then, I really wouldn’t recommend the crab tots.”
Customer: “Why? They’re just potato tots.”
Me: “No, they’re crab meat tots.”
Customer: “Oh! I thought they were tater tots shaped like a crab, not made out of crab.”
Me: “No, they’re shaped like tater tots and made out of crab.”
Customer: “Well, thanks for checking for me! This is why I get through so many EpiPens…”
I made sure to double-check every order he made for the rest of the night.
