Cashless And Shameless
I work at a popular dollar store that also adds cash to certain online pay accounts. Any time someone goes to add money, we always emphasize that they have to add cash, because we cannot have it added via a card of any type. This is usually not an issue. Usually.
Me: “Cool, the total will be [amount] including the fee.”
Customer: “Okay, I’m paying with card.”
Me: “You can’t add via card, only cash.”
Customer: “Oh, I’ve done it before at [location], you just have to press [button].”
Me: “…No, we can only add cash. If you don’t have cash, I’ll have to cancel the transaction.”
Customer: “No, if you press [button], it’ll let me pay via card!”
The button in question is the cash prompt. If I press it, without the cash in hand, my register WILL be short. The customer wants to add a couple of hundred, which isn’t unusual in itself, but it’s obvious what’s going on. I cancel the transaction at my register.
Me: “Okay, nope. Out of my store.”
Customer: “What?!”
Me: “I’m not stupid. Out of my store. I’m also messaging the managers at the nearby [stores] to let them know not to serve you. Out.”
The customer storms off. I did, in fact, message the nearby store managers, one of whom reported a similar person pulling the same thing.
