Can’t Speak A ‘Lic’ Of The Language

| England, UK | Learning | August 16, 2015

(I have recently moved from Wales to London. As such, I have a Welsh accent the kids are fascinated by. I also drops in Welsh phrases when I speak.)

Student #1: “Why does Wales even have its own language, anyway?”

Teacher: “Why wouldn’t they? France does. Germany does.”

Student #1: “Yeah, but they’re not part of the UK. Scotland and Ireland don’t.”

Teacher: “Well, actually they do: Scots Gaelic and Irish Gaelic.”

Student #1: *look of dawning comprehension* “So, sir, we’re speaking English Gaelic right now?”

Student #2: “Did you actually just say that?”
