Can’t Hide The Truth From Children

(I am looking for something while my mom is taking care of something else up front, when I see a young man and a little boy who can’t be older than four or five. The little boy is skipping happily, and I overhear this exchange.)

Boy: “Where’s Mommy, Daddy? We gotta find her!”

Father: *teasingly* “She’s hiding from you, bud!”

(The boy immediately stops skipping, and his voice cracks as he literally breaks into devastated tears.)

Boy: “B-but why would she do that, Daddy? Why would she be so mean? WHY WOULD SHE DO THAT?!”

(The father started frantically to try and calm his son down, but he was clearly distraught that his mother would be hiding from him!)
