Can They Haggle? No Or No?, Part 5

, , , , , | Right | November 18, 2022

My wife and I have some experience with trying to sell stuff we don’t need anymore at an online marketplace. The reason we do this is that we don’t like wasting something that could be useful to someone else, but also that, occasionally, it is easier to have big stuff like furniture or an old mini-oven picked up by someone rather than having to get rid of it by yourself.

I am moving in with my wife (then girlfriend) and decide to sell off my bed, which originally cost over €500. I ask €250 for it. One person responds:

Customer: “I’ll offer €50 for it.”

Me: “That’s far too low. I asked for €250. A lower offer is one thing, but this is ridiculous, man.”

Customer: “€60?”

Me: “Still too low. We’d better end this conversation since you are really not getting this.”

Customer: “€70?”

In the end, my parents offered to buy the bed from me to use in the guest room.
