Came In With A Cane Do Attitude!
I used to work in a large retail store, but have since retired because I am disabled and need my cane to get around.
I’m shopping, and a former regular customer recognizes me.
Customer: “Oh, good. You’re here. Can you check the back to see if you have any more—”
Me: *Holding my hand up.* “—Sorry to interrupt, but I don’t work here anymore.”
Customer: “It’s rude to interrupt a customer.”
Me: “Not as rude as it is to expect someone getting around slowly with a cane to walk all the way to the back of the store for you.”
Customer: *Sniffs.* “Well, whatever, you still used to work here. I’m sure you know someone who can help me if you’re…” *Looks me up and down.* “…unwilling.”
Me: “It’s more unable than unwilling, but the more you run that mouth of yours, the more that’s ticking over to the latter.”
Customer: “That’s no way to talk to a customer!”
Me: “This is how we’ve always wanted to talk to customers. It’s one of the things we look forward to doing when we retire! Now, are you going to p*** off, or am I going to keep giving you a piece of my mind? I got thirty years of retail rage pent up inside me, and I can swing this cane around if the opportunity presents itself…”
The customer glared at me, but did indeed p*** off. Have to admit, that felt goooood.
