Books Are Excellent, But Not In Excrement

, , , | Right | January 17, 2025

Our bookstore allows dogs provided they are leashed and well-behaved. A woman comes in with a little toy breed, who proceeds to take a dump in the middle of the aisle. This woman, engrossed in the books, does not notice. As the manager, I approach her.

Me: “Excuse me, ma’am, your dog has made a mess on the floor.”

Customer: *Not looking up from her book.* “Yeah, dogs do that.”

Me: “Can you please take care of it?”

Customer: *Huffily looking up from her book.* “That’s not my job.”

Me: “I intend to wipe the area down, but first I need you to remove… it.”

Customer: *Angrily now, reading my name tag.* “You’re the manager on duty. There is my dog’s duty. Do your duty.”

Me: “Then I am duty-bound to refuse your sale and ban you from this store.”

Customer: “What?! You can’t do that! It’s just a dog.”

Me: “I’m not blaming the dog, ma’am, I’m blaming you. Either pick up the poo, or I poo-poo you away forever.”

Customer: *Storming out of the store.* “I’m going to go to another bookstore where they respect their customers!”

That’s how I was able to take out the trash BEFORE I bagged up the s***.
