Band Together Behind The Vote
(The class president is up for reelection. I have been working vigorously on one of the campaigns for the past few months. At the same time, the school’s levy is failing and they will vote on that. Today, there is a levy rally. As part of the marching band, I am encouraged, but not forced, to attend. I choose not to, because I will be working on the presidential election today instead.)
Band Director: “Are you going to the rally tonight?”
Me: “No. I already volunteered to work on a presidential campaign, so I can’t make it.”
Band Director: *confused* “Why would you do that? You can’t even vote.”
Me: “That is why I am encouraging others to vote the same way as me, rather than go to a rally with people who are already voting the way I would like.”
