Are You Even Calling The Right Hotel?

I work in a hotel. I need a room number AND a name in order to transfer a call.

Me: “Thank you for calling [Hotel]. How may I help you?”

Guy: “I need room XX7.”

Me: “Okay, may I have the name on the reservation?”

Guy: “[Name].”

Me: “I’m sorry, that’s not the name I have on file. I’ll need the guest’s name and room number before I can transfer you.”

Guy: “How about XX8?”

Me: “That name isn’t on that file, either.”

Guy: “Uh, okay, but I paid for the room. I don’t remember the room number.”

I repeated the policy.

Guy: “But I paid for the room. Why can’t you transfer me?”

There was no one under that name, which I didn’t tell him, because we don’t release any personal information except to the registered guest with ID.

I’ve had people circle our parking lot and find the vehicle or someone they’re looking for and ask for their room number. H*** no, and of course, they flip out, at which point, I get their plate numbers and contact police.

Me: “I cannot release personal information, even if you paid. I suggest you contact the people whose room you paid for directly because I cannot transfer you.”

Guy: “BUT I PAAIIIDDDD FOR THE ROOOOOM!”

Me: “Sir, you can yell at me all you want. I will not transfer your call without the proper credentials.”

Guy: “Okay, thank you, you f***.”

I’ll never understand how people cannot comprehend basic privacy and security for hotel guests. They remind me of the people who show up at 12:01 am expecting to check in.
