Any Given Sundae, Part 3

, , | Hopeless | September 10, 2016

(I’m a cashier at an ice cream parlor/market. A man comes in, buys a sundae, pays, and then slips me a $10 bill.)

Man: “Put this towards the next customer’s order.”

(He leaves and a young couple comes in with their son.)

Lady: “Do you guys still do birthday sundae promotions? Our little boy turned one year old today.”

Me: “Sorry, ma’am, we stopped doing that a year ago.”

Lady: “Okay.”

(The couple looks a little disappointed but I smile because I know something they don’t. They end up ordering $9.50 worth of ice cream products.)

Lady: “How much do I owe you?”

Me: “Nothing. A gentleman came in earlier and paid for your order.”

(Their jaws drop.)

Lady: “Who did this? We would like to thank him.”

Me: “He left already.”

(The two kept looking at each other, saying wow repeatedly and left with their food. It made me want to pay it forward like that guy did.)
