Bigotry, Convenience Store, Health & Body, Pregnancy, Stupid, USA | Friendly | September 23, 2025

It is during the COVID times. I’m eight months pregnant and I am trying to avoid leaving the house, but sometimes I am forced to, so I double-mask and walk to the local convenience store.

The store has a two-customer maximum policy, so there’s a line outside, and also social distancing at six feet apart. I’m the next in line when a stranger walks up to me and gets way too close.

Stranger: “You need to take off that mask!”

Me: “No, I don’t, and also back the f*** up.”

Stranger: “You’re killing your baby! Your baby can’t breathe if you’re wearing a mask!”

I back away from this crazy person. My eyes dart across the politicized slogans on their t-shirt and hat, and I think, “of course.” I won’t repeat them here, but the t-shirt is making it pretty clear who they voted for and what they think about gays, guns, and Muslims.

Me: “Then that should solve the problem you people came up with, saying the Muslims are going to take over America by outbreeding everyone else! Imagine all those masked Muslim women killing all their babies! They fixed that problem for us, amirite?!”

Stranger: *Pause to compute.* “Baby killer! You’ll burn in Hell!” *Walks away.*

Years later, I remember childbirth being the second most painful experience I had during COVID…
