An Embarrassment Of Pastries
There is a historic inn one town over that is associated with an Ivy League college. Their patrons include movie stars and royalty, as well as the non-famous wealthy people who send their children to the college.
My friend (we are in our early twenties) decide we should eat there, just dessert and coffee. I agree, only because it’s summertime and it’s their off season.
We get there around lunchtime and the place is pretty much empty. So far, so good.
My friend takes a look at the menu and says to the waitress:
Friend: “Is it okay if we go out and buy pastries and eat them here? We’ll buy coffee.”
The waitress, who has impeccable manners, says:
Waitress: “That would be all right.”
So, we went and bought pastries and ate them on the town green, because I refused to go back in.
