Also Exasperated

We have a new nurse in our unit.

Nurse: “We need to get more fluids into [Patient]. They look really emanciated!”

Me: “I think you mean ’emaciated’.”

Nurse: “No! Emanciated!”

Me: “A person can be emaciated or emancipated, but ’emanciated’ isn’t a word.”

Nurse: “Can a person be both emaciated and emancipated?”

Me: “I mean… I guess?”

Nurse: “Then they’re emanciated!”
