Alarmingly Casual
I’m in the middle of ordering food with a waiter when the restaurant’s fire alarm goes off. The waiter remains standing there, nonchalant.
Me: “Uh… doesn’t that alarm mean something?”
Waiter: “It’s probably nothing.”
Me: “Then your restaurant has a very loud way of saying nothing.”
Waiter: “The chef is always burning things and setting off the fire alarm. It’s fine. Now, did you want any sides with—”
The doors to the kitchen burst open, smoke billowing out of it, a kitchen worker shouting:
Kitchen Worker: “Why are you all sitting there!? Are you all deaf? There’s a fire! Get out!”
We don’t need to be told twice! We all stand up and start making our way to the exit.
Waiter: *Sighing and shoulders dropping.* “Ugh, this is really gonna hurt my tips tonight…”
