Ah, Teenagers…

(I am in my early 20s, engaged, and on good terms with almost everyone I work with; it’s just one 15-year-old girl who seems to have a problem with me. I usually get a lift to work and then make my own way home, sometimes even walking for an hour and a half. It’s a hot afternoon and I’ve just finished my shift along with a couple of other staff.)

Coworker #1: “It’s hot out here. Hey, [My Name], how are you getting home?”

Me: “Not sure; it’s too hot to walk. I’ll probably get a taxi.”

Coworker #1: “Walk? You live in [Suburb] right? That’s a h*** of a walk and a taxi will be expensive. I’ll drive you home.”

Me: “You don’t have to.”

Coworker #1: “Yes, I do. We just have to wait for [Coworker #2] first.”

Me: “Okay, thanks. I’m just going to let [Manager] know. He also asked how I was going to get home.”

(The next day…)

15-Year-Old Coworker: “I saw you get into [Coworker #1]’s car with him and [Coworker #2].

Me: “Yes, [Coworker #1] offered to drive me home because it was so hot.”

15-Year-Old Coworker: “You know [Coworker #2] is my BOYFRIEND, don’t you?”

Me: *thinking that he could do better* “Yes, but what’s that got to do with [Coworker #1] driving me home?”

15-Year-Old Coworker: “You got in the same car as my boyfriend, right after I saw you talking and joking with [Manager]. Eww, he’s so old. What do you see in him? Maybe I should tell him that you went with [Coworker #1] and [Coworker #2]. How do you think he’s going to feel about that?”

Me: “First thing, I told [Manager] who was driving me home and second thing, you do realise I am engaged to [Manager]’s brother, right? I’m not interested in your boyfriend.”
