About To Lose It

(I am three years old. My mother has taken me to an open-market sale on cookware. The sale is very crowded and I become separated from my mother for about five minutes. Although I am calm, my mother is shaken up by the experience and we leave soon afterward to meet up with my paternal grandmother, who has never been very fond of my mother.)

Grandmother: “[My Name], what did you and Mommy do today?”

Me: *proudly* “Mommy took me to a pot party and I got lost!”

(My mother was finally able to explain once my grandmother stopped screaming.)
