A Wheel Turning Point

(I’m an 18 year old paraplegic. I’ve been in a wheelchair since I was 12, but I’m very athletic and have won countless sports competitions. My six-year-old brother looks up to me, and often says that he ‘wants to be just like me when he grows up.’ Yesterday he tried to jump from his bunk bed to his dresser. He wound up getting four stitches in his head. I get home from hanging out with friends.)

Little Brother: “[My Name]! I got stitches today!”

Me: “Really? Are you okay? What happened?”

Mom: “He tried to jump off his bunk bed.”

Me: “You know, you can be just like me without paralyzing yourself.”
