A Very Impressionable Artist
My daughters have just seen a children’s documentary about Claude Monet. Among other things, it explained that because Monet wanted to paint impressions rather than details, his paintings look like random splotches of paint when seen up close.
After watching, my two-year-old grabs her paints and starts doodling.
Two-Year-Old: “Mummy, I’m painting! Look, [Sister], I’m painting a boat!”
Seven-Year-Old: “But that’s just splotches.”
Me: “Of course it is. She’s an impressionist.”
