A True Jedi Master Would’ve Been More Organized

I work in a hotel. Last night, I had a person who tried to check in at around 12:15 am and claimed he had a reservation. He did not, and we were sold out. He didn’t exactly wave his hand like a Jedi, but he intently stared at me and asked me to look again, saying:

Man: “It must be there.”

It wasn’t, because we were sold out — sold out before I even arrived on shift and everyone was checked in. It was basically a babysitting shift for me.

I got the man’s ID.

Me: “Who did you book with?”

Man: “I booked directly with the hotel a few weeks ago.”

I checked and, according to our records, he didn’t.

He again didn’t wave his hand but looked at me intently as he spoke.

Man: “I booked with a manager.”

Me: “Do you have the manager’s name?”

Man: “No.”

Me: “We’re sold out tonight. I’ll check if the reservation is for a different date.”

There was no reservation.

Man: “I need to talk to a manager, then.”

Me: “Sir, it’s 12:30 am. A manager will be in after 7:00 am.”

As he was leaving the lobby, he got on his phone and called us (me) and asked if we had any rooms available for the current day. I pretended I didn’t know it was him.

Me: “No, sir, we do not.”

Man: “I just checked online, and it says you have rooms available for today.”

Me: “If there is an available room listed for today, go ahead and make the reservation.”

I knew there wasn’t one available. He hung up and called back a minute later.

Man: “I booked it.”

I checked and, of course, it was for the next day.

Me: “Sir, the reservation you just booked is for tomorrow.”

Man: “It’s booked for today!”

Me: “No, sir, it’s booked for tomorrow.”

He hung up. A few minutes later, he walked back in.

Man: “I just booked a reservation online for today.”

Me: “Technically, yes, sir, you’re booked for today’s date. But you’ve booked for the next business day. Check-in for today’s reservations is after 3:00 pm. I suggest that you read your reservation details.”

He did, and after pacing around for a few minutes, he walked out without saying anything.
