A Stretch Of The Imagination

(Our professor has begun discussing the chapter on the female reproductive system.)

Professor: “So the cervix has a mucous that allows it to be open or closed. Now, in order to get an idea of what it feels like, here’s an experiment.”

Student #1: *whisper* “Oh no. No no. Stop.”

Professor: “Of course, don’t do this here —that would be inappropriate. But what I want you to do is…”

Student #2: *whisper* “Oh gosh.”

Professor: “I want you to stick your fingers in your mouth, and pull out a tendril of saliva, and see how long the saliva is. The part that makes it stretchy? That’s musin, a key component of mucous in the cervix.”
