A Storm Of Entitlement, Part 4
I work in a large department store. It’s been announced that our town is a few hours away from a hurricane so we’re closing up and sending everyone home. This has been announced to the customers, but I still find one casually browsing.
Me: “Ma’am, we have closed the store due to the storm. You need to leave immediately.”
Customer: “Oh it’s not that bad a storm! No need to be dramatic.”
Me: “This is an order coming from the police. You need to go home now. There is significant risk of strong winds and flooding.”
Customer: “Oh they said that last time, but there won’t be a flood. And even if there is we’re on the third floor.”
Me: “But then how will you get home?”
Customer: “I live just two blocks away! I don’t mind getting my feet a little wet.”
Me: “And what about us?
Customer: *Blank stare.* “What about you?”
Me: “How would we get home?”
Customer: “Oh… I didn’t think about you.”
Me: “Obviously.”
