A Sad Unread Story

(I’m a college student working on a Bachelor’s degree in English, and I work at the campus Writing Center. I, of course, am not to write students’ papers for them, just help them with the basics of grammar and paper writing and the like. This is probably around nine am or so.)
Girl: “Hi, I need to write a paper about this story.”
Me: “Okay, well, when is your paper due?”
Girl: “In my noon class.”
Me: “…Right. Tell me what the story is about.”
Girl: “I don’t know. I haven’t read it.”
Me: “…”
Girl: “…”
Me: “You might as well just leave, because I can’t help you.”
(She left in tears.)
