A Quick Turnaround For A Page Turner
(I regularly order books and have them delivered to the store so that I get free shipping. When the book arrives, the store calls you to notify you. I placed an order a couple weeks before. I am shopping in the store for some other books, and spend some time talking with the cashier with the manager nearby.)
Me: “Well, enjoy your day.”
Cashier: “You too!”
(I walk out of the store and stop just outside when I hear my phone ring. I answer it.)
Me: “Hello?”
Cashier: “Hi. Is this [My Name]?”
Me: “It is.”
Cashier: “This is [Name] from [Bookstore]. I’m just calling to let you know the book you ordered has arrived.”
Me: *chuckling* “All right. Thanks.”
(I hang up, then turn around and walk five steps back into the store. The cashier and manager are both looking a little confused. I put on my brightest smile and try not to laugh.)
Me: “Hi, this is [My Name]. I just got a call saying my book had arrived.”
(The manager and employee begin laughing.)
Cashier: “No wonder you were laughing on the phone!”
