A Major D In D Minor

| Learning | July 19, 2013

(My high school music teacher is in her late twenties, and notorious for not thinking before she speaks. The symphonic band is primarily sophomores and juniors, with few freshmen, and no seniors.)

Teacher: “I understand that this piece is in the key of D, but you just need to learn to embrace it! Feel the D! Become the D!”

Students: *stifling laughter for the most part*

Teacher: “You have to imagine that your childhood was surrounded by D!”

Students: *completely lose it, and can’t stop laughing for several minutes*

Teacher: “What did I do this time?!”

Student: “Well… Mrs. [teacher]… D is—”

Teacher: “Never mind. I don’t want to know.”
