A Joke Of Note

(My music teacher has been talking with my math teacher and is just leaving the room before the start of class.)

Music Teacher: “Oops, almost forgot my notebook!” *titters* “Notebook. D’you get it?”

(Maths teacher hands her the book, impatiently expressionless.)

Music Teacher: “Geddit? Notebook.” *opens it to show it’s one of those with staves for writing music*

Maths Teacher: “Yes. Very good. [Music Teacher], you’ve been saying that joke for about 20 years now.”

(The music teacher left the room chuckling along to herself and the maths teacher just put her head down on the desk and made a weird noise that could have been either a laugh or a dramatic sob — we weren’t sure.)
