A Hard No On That Hardware

I’m working at a hardware store when a guy comes up to the return counter with an item and no receipt.

Customer: “I want a store credit.”

I look at the product… and immediately recognize it. It’s only sold at Home Depot.

Me: “I’m sorry, sir. We can’t issue store credit for this. It isn’t our product.”

Customer: “I’m 100% sure I bought it at a hardware store!”

Me: “Right. Just not this one.”

He refuses to take no for an answer, so I pull up the item on the computer and show him it’s a Home Depot product. Then I pull up our website and show him it doesn’t exist anywhere in our inventory.

He gets red in the face and yells, loud enough for half the store to hear.

Customer: “Are you f****** stupid?!”

Me: “That’s my line, sir.”

Somehow, I don’t get in trouble.
