A Half-Baked Explanation

(My mom is hard-boiling some eggs. My 22-year-old sister comes in and looks in the pot.)

Sister: “Why are the eggs bubbling?”

Me: “They’re porous.”

Sister: “Why?!”

Mom: “That’s how the chicks breathe while they’re baking.”

Me: “…Did you just call the incubation of chicken eggs ‘baking?'”

Mom: “Well, that’s what happens!”
