A Gentile Reminder To Use The Inside Voice
A mom and her young son are checking out. Based on all the kosher items we sell and our proximity to the region’s largest synagogue, we get a lot of Jewish customers. The child has been staring at me for a while, and then blurts out:
Child: “Are you circumcised or are you a gentile?”
Me: *Looks squarely at the mother.*
Mother: “Sorry, we just got to that part of the Torah.” *To her son.* “[Son’s Name], what did we say about inside questions and outside questions?”
Child: “But we are inside!”
Mother: “I meant inside the house!”
