A Fiery Lunch

(My office has been going through multiple rounds of redundancies, and morale is at an all-time low. Everyone is overworked, because the workload never drops, but is being shared among fewer and fewer people. A member of my team is the most recent lay-off, and we go out to a very subdued farewell lunch. At the end of the meal as we are preparing to return to the office, our manager speaks up.)

Manager: *with a big smile on his face* “That was fun! We should do this more often!”

(Nobody said anything. We just froze and stared at him like he’d sprouted a second head.)
