A Puritanical Obsession

(The 10^th-grade honors English teacher at my high school is OBSESSED the Puritans. She will frequently spend the entire 1.5 hour class raving about how wonderful they were, how we need to be more like the Puritans, etc. The next year, I took AP US History.)

Teacher: “Okay, having finished with Virginia, we’re now onto the colonization of New England and the Puritans.”

(About eight of us visibly react: some groan, some face-palm, I start banging my head on the desk.)

Teacher: “Well, I know who had [10^th-grade honors English Teacher] last year. Don’t worry, we’ll rush through this.”
