Going To Need A Time-Turner After That Page-Turner
(The Harry Potter series came out when I was in college, and I made it my mission to get my friends hooked. One of them was being… resistant.)
Me: “You’ve got to read them. They’re fantastic!”
Friend #1: “They’re for kids. How good can they be?”
Me: “Very! Just try it!”
Friend #1: “No thanks.”
(I buy him a copy of the first book and shove it into his hands. The following week…)
Friend #2: “We said rehearsal at 3:30, right?”
Friend #3: “Yeah,. Where’s [Friend #1]? He’s never this late.”
(Right on cue he comes running through the door.)
Friend #1: “Sorry, guys, sorry. Lost track of time.”
Me: “So, where were you?”
Friend #1: *muttering* “Barnes & Noble.”
Me: *raises eyebrow* “Doing what, exactly?”
Friend #1: *muttering even softer* “Reading Chamber of Secrets.”
Me: “YES! I win! Okay, Schubert now.”
(And I stopped gloating so we could start rehearsal. But only until the end of rehearsal…)
