(I am sitting in a French literature class, discussing The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I’m sitting next to my best friend and he’s not really following.)
Teacher: “So, when the archdeacon, Frollo…”
Friend: *under his breath* “Isn’t Frollo, like, a justice minister?”
Teacher: “What?”
Friend: “I mean, was Frollo really the archdeacon? I thought he was a judge or something?”
Teacher: “Well I don’t know where you got that from, [Friend].”
Me: “[Friend], is it possible you just watched the Disney musical instead of reading the novel?”
Friend: “You know I am righteous man; of my virtue I am justly proud…”
