No Stranger Danger

(This takes place while my mother and I are walking into a local diner, waiting for my dad to get done with a business meeting before leaving work that day. Suddenly, a voice pipes up behind us.)

Woman: “WELL, HOWDY, STRANGER!”

(Surprised, as we were an hour north of where we live, my mother and I turn around. At this point, the woman who cried out starts laughing hysterically.)

Woman: “Oh, I’m sorry! From behind you looked just like my friend!”

Me: “Well, you WERE right. We are strangers!”

(This got a laugh, and we ended up sitting and chatting while waiting for dad, who joined in as well. We might have been strangers before, but at least for that afternoon we were friends!)
