(I work in a warehouse based company that has customers pick items from a catalogue, most of our customers are tradesmen so they don’t mind some sarcasm)
Colleague: Hey [my name]!
(I look over)
Customer: This customer wants to know how long our screws are!
Me: Sir, how long is a piece of string?
Customer:… Yeah that was a pretty dumb question wasn’t it?

    Was someone high or had a stroke while writing this? Anyone else confused with what a piece of string has to do with how long a screw is or is it an English thing?

      I think they’re implying that measuring screws is like trying to measure a piece of string? Maybe? Like there’s no definite standard for a length of string, so obviously screws have to be held to the same measurement? Which I know is BS, because I know there are several different lengths of screws, and they all can be measured. The appropriate answer should’ve been something along the lines of, “Well, how long do you need them to be?”
