Unfiltered Story #67527

(I am a seasonal employee at a local toy store. It is Black Friday and I have been mindlessly heeding customer requests without a second thought for a while now. A woman approaches my counter.)

Me: Hi, how can I help you?

Woman: Do you think you can get into the database and look up what I put on Layaway? I have the receipt with me.

(I stare for a second, confused.)

Me: …You want me to look up what you put on Layaway.

Woman: Yes.

Me: But you have the receipt.

Woman: Yes.

Me: …Ma’am, can I see your receipt?

(She proceeds to hand me the receipt. I glance at it for about ten seconds, then point to the area on the receipt where all of her purchases are clearly listed. She proceeds to ask me what a couple of the items are, and then happily leaves. I guess some people don’t understand the purpose of a receipt!)
