Unfiltered Story #67170

(I work as a cashier at a low-end department store. An old man comes up to my station, dropping his extremely out-dated mobile phone onto it).

Old Man: (squinting at my name tag) “Hello [Name]. Can I have $100 of [telephone company] pre-paid phone credit?”

(I run the purchase through without any issue and hand him the receipt, which has detailed instructions on how to redeem the credit.)

Old Man: (pushing his phone towards me) “Please put the credit on for me.”

Me: “I’m sorry, I’m not allowed to do that. There are instructions on the receipt on how to redeem it.”

Old Man: (starting to raise his voice) “Why won’t you do it? I don’t know how to do it!”

Me: “I’m sorry sir, it’s store policy. There’s a [telephone company] store just outside and to your left; they might be willing to help you.”

Old Man: “BUT YOU PROMISED THAT YOU WOULD DO IT FOR ME! WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH THIS NOW?!”

(The Old Man continues to grumble at me for several more minutes before eventually getting the message that there was nothing I could do and stormed off.
