(This happens when I was working on the phones, calling back customers who emailed us asking for help/advise/product information.)
Me; (getting the answerphone) Hi this is X calling from Y, i’m trying to reach you in regards to your website query. Please call me on xxxxx.
The next day
Me; (getting the answerphone) Hi this is X calling from Y, i’m trying to reach you in regards to your website query. I couldn’t reach you yesterday and I have left you an email should you need any assistance in your query.
The next day, I ring again
Me; Hi this is X calling from Y, i’m trying to reach you in regards to your website query
Customer; (rudely) What are you talking about?
Me; You left a message with us (Company name) about some information you required.
Customer; Oh yeah, well, i’m busy.
Me; Ok, well I do want to assist you if I can should I…
Customer; (puts the phone down on me)
Me; (In email) I’m sorry if I caught you at a bad time, what I was going to say was; if you would like to speak with me at a time more convenient to you we can set a date. However in this case, should you require anymore information please call the office on xxxx.
(I try to forget about the unpleasantness and get back to work, I note his account and deal with the next customer.)
A few days later, my boss took an incoming call, he puts him on hold and shout to me.
Boss: (my name) did you deal with (customer) the other day?
Me; Yeah he wasn’t very pleasant.
Boss; I heard, say no more (he return to his desk leaving the door open.)
Boss (on phone) yes we do supply that piece of equipment…….yes those prices are accurate …yes, I agree best prices by far…..no, not to you. (slams phone down)
Boss; (to me) sod him, let him pay over the odds, we don’t need that sort of business.
I find out (through yet another email to the website) that he was trying to find information on a £50,000 system, thanks to his rudeness we will undoubtedly at least another £20,00 on top of that now.
