I was stationed at an Army base in Maryland. I was in the Army Security Agency, which later merged with Military Intelligence, so the following conversation astounded me.
Our colonel was known to be a serious drinker. I was in the company offices one afternoon, assigned to typing forms, when I heard this exchange:
Colonel Drinky: I’m going into town now.
Major Turniphead: Do you want me to drive you there?
Col. Drinky: No, I’m going to take my car.
Major Turniphead: Okay. What time would you like me to pick you up?
